Chapter Twenty

“An advanced balance of magical ingredients that drastically improve the overall body condition to help it grow faster, stronger, and healthier. Contains a unique strengthening complex of protein and calcium,” Eric stuttered as he read the label pasted on the Euro bottle, the magical liquid sloshing and bubbling inside of it.

“This is the thirteenth time you’re reading this, Knight.” Nurse Harriet adjusted the pillow behind Layla’s back. She then pulled the over-bed table close to her. A breakfast of English egg muffins and milk made Layla flinch. She folded her hand to herself, leaning back. “I hate these.”

“Is there something that you don’t hate, Miss?” Nurse Harriet divided the muffin into small bite-sized pieces. She stabbed the fork in one of the pieces and brought it near to Layla’s mouth. “Have it, you can’t take the potion, empty stomach.”

“I’m not a kid. I can eat on my own.” Layla unfolded her hands, snatched the fork from the poor nurse, and began pricking the mutilated muffin.

“Look at her. She’s already throwing tantrums like a witch queen.” Nurse Harriet raised her brows, her eyes bulging out of her sockets.

“That place is reserved for Queen Akasha. I just want to be a witch. A happy, healthy, and beautiful witch.” Layla raised the fork to her mouth and supped the tiny morsel hanging on its prongs. “Now come on, give me the potion and I’ll drink the whole bottle. Can’t wait any longer.” She lifted the tumbler of milk and sipped it before slamming it down on the table, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.

“Only a drop at a time. Not more than that or it will make you a giant beast.” Eric shook the bottle and then pulled out its cap. “Open your mouth.”

Nurse Harriet came over to the back of the bed and tilted back Layla’s head. “Lean back. Look at the ceiling.”

“There’s no ceiling. It’s only darkness there.” Layla snorted.

“Whatever.” An irritated groan exited from Nurse Harriet’s mouth as she supported Layla from her neck.

Layla opened her mouth, and a tiny drop of purplish-blue liquid trickled down the bottle and fell straight into her mouth. “Yuck. That tastes awful.” Her nose wrinkled. “Give me an M & M or I’ll die with the aftertaste of whatever poison you’ve administered.” She grunted, choking, gagging.

“You’ll be all right.” Nurse Harried rubbed her back.

“Everyone prophesies here. How the hell do you know I’ll be all right. Get me an M & M quick. Even Halloween butter candy will do if you’re incapable of producing M & M.”

“Make sure she doesn’t vomit.” Eric turned around and walked to the exit.

“Where the hell are you going?” Layla whined, pushing herself to a sitting position. “Ahh…” she whimpered as pain emanated from her broken rib.

“Give her some coconut water,” Eric spoke as she reached the exit.

“Coconut water? What shit is that? I want M & M. That’s it.” Layla slammed fists on the mattress, her face flushing, neck veins throbbing.

When her temper tantrums didn’t elicit any response from Eric, she closed her eyes and dropped herself down on the bed.
